Searching for RSS

It is nice that you can search for RSS feeds, but I just don't find it useful. Getting the RSS feed, for me, is secondary. I, more than likely, will visit the website/blog before I even think about subscribing to a feed.

Bloglines

I've had a Bloglines account for quite a while now. Here is my Bloglines account. Bloglines has got a really nice interface. Plus, you can access your account from any computer (unlike some of the downloadable feedreaders). As far as tools for searching for feeds, I don't use them. Usually, I'll look at a website, and, if I like it, that is when I look to see if they have a feed available. And that's all I've got to say about that.

Flickr Backup Utility

Sarah Houghton-Jan over at Librarian in Black blogged about the Flickr Backup utility today. Since we just finished up Thing 5 and 6 not long ago, this has significance.

Basically, this little app backs up all of the photos you have on Flickr to your computer. This is pretty handy for people who upload stuff straight from their digital camera or other removable media. Backups are so important and with something as irreplaceable as a photo, it is good to store them in at least two places.

Password o rama

I've got more stinkin passwords and user ids than carter has little pills. Seriously, lets look at it:

Newegg.com (Great tech webstore)

Student Loan
blah, blah, blah this list goes on and on. Even Our Honda Mini Van has a website to review service, schedule service, etc...

I know I'm not alone.

How do you remember all the passwords? One password to rule them all (forgive me J.R.R.)? Not a good idea if you try to use the same user id for everything. If it gets compromised in connection to a site, theoretically, it could then be compromised for everything you access. Right them down? Not the best idea. Plus, you have to remember where you put the list. That is a problem for me, at least.

Anymore, if I can't remember, I just click "Forgot Password" or whatever link they have for the feeble minded (yours truly included) and let the site send me an email with the password in it (or whatever it does fix the problem). No use struggling over that password that I knew would be so easy to remember. It's on its way to me as we speak.

OverDrive Wiki

Has anybody seen this OverDrive FAQ?
It was put together by Wisconsin Public Library Consortium and has some really good instructions for downloading digital content from OverDrive. Of course, some of their information is a little different (like length of checkout), but it does a good job of explaining the nuts and bolts of the OverDrive service.

New LCPL Toolbar

Hot of the press is the LCPL Toolbar. Download it and give it a spin. We were actually able to create this with a free online tool provided by Conduit. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this project. If you want, you can make one for yourself. It is rather easy.
